Beliefs
The Bible is the basis of all our beliefs
The Word of God
The Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is God’s revelation to us about Himself, creation, fall into sin and the redemptive work of Jesus. This Word is the basis of all our other beliefs.
The Creator
God is the creator and sustainer of all things. He created us in His image to have a loving relationship with Him and to worship and enjoy Him forever.
Our Sin and Misery
We believe that humanity has fallen into sin through the disobedience of our first parents, Adam and Eve. Since then, all people have sinned and fallen short of God’s perfect standard. Sin separates us from God, and its consequence is death, a condition shared by all people.
God's Work of Salvation
We believe that God did not leave us in our sin, but made a way for us to be restored to Him. He sent His only son, Jesus Christ -fully God and fully man- to bear the penalty for our sin through His death on the cross.
Faith and Repentance
We believe that faith (belief) in Jesus Christ as our Saviour is the only way to salvation. God calls us to repent and believe in Him, and therefore we must confess our sins, turn from them, and hold on to Christ alone for salvation.
The Holy Spirit
We believe that Jesus, in His mercy and great love, sends the Holy Spirit to those who believe in Him. We are unable to truly repent and walk with Jesus unless the Holy Spirit lives in our hearts to strengthen, guide and motivate us.
Our Background
The Free Reformed Church of Melville was first established in (YEAR) and is part of the Free Reformed Churches of Australia.
Our church is rooted in the Protestant Reformation, a movement that began in the 1500s and sought to return to the teachings of the Bible as the foundation for faith and life. We continue to hold steadfast to these beliefs, emphasising God’s grace, the authority of scripture, and salvation through Jesus Christ alone.
Today, we are a local congregation committed to worshipping God, growing in faith, and sharing the hope of the gospel with our community in Melville and beyond.
What does it mean to be reformed?
As a Reformed church, we believe in the following five foundational principles that are rooted in the teachings of the Bible.
Scripture Alone
The Bible is the divinely inspired and infallible word of God. As His true and trustworthy word, it is the final authority for what we believe and how we follow Jesus Christ.
Faith Alone
Our salvation was earned by Jesus Christ. Faith, rather than our works, good deeds, or efforts, is the means by which we receive God's grace. Even faith itself is a gift from God, enabling us to believe the gospel.
Grace Alone
We are reconciled to God by His grace alone. We do not deserve God's forgiveness, nor can we make ourselves worthy of it. Salvation is God's free gift to us.
Christ Alone
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the only Saviour. Through His death on the cross, He alone paid the ultimate price for all sin and is the sole object of our faith for salvation.
God's Glory Alone
We believe that all of life belongs to God and is to be lived for His glory. Our purpose is to honour Him in every area of life, seeking to bring glory to Him in all that we think, say, and do.

Our beliefs are expressed more fully in the creeds and confessions listed below. We regard these documents as faithful summaries of the teachings of Scripture and helpful guides to understanding the Christian faith.
However, they do not carry the same authority as the Bible. Scripture alone is God’s inspired Word and remains the final authority for all matters of faith and life. The creeds and confessions are always subject to and tested by God’s Word.
